Due to a problem with spammers the rules for posting in the forums have changed for new users.
Newly registered users won't have their posts published until a moderator approves them.

As you may have noticed all of the posts have gone missing.
When I updated Joomla there was a problem with the database and although I could have just restored the database I took this as an opportunity to deal with other nagging website problems that I have avoided fixing.
I have manually copied over any threads that I thought were the most important. Feel free to re-start any topic that you feel wasn't concluded.
A lot of this forum is just glorified "post it" notes for things that I want to remember, lol.

Shame we lost the users, couldn't have just imported the old database stuff for users/posts?

Not easily. The new Joomla update changed the database to a different format. I had to install a fresh copy of Joomla and then mess around with it until it properly updated the virgin database. Once I finally got that working I was left with a user database that was a different format and couldn't be imported.
I could have imported the forum, since that database wasn't changed in the update, but the problem is the user database had changed.
To make things worse the company that we rent our hosting space from was having a problem with the backup software. I couldn't access the backup while they were in talks with a software company to get it fixed. If this had been taken care of in a timely fashion I would have been able to solve everything quickly.
I just finally gave up and did it the way I had to do it.
The only positive side is that now the site isn't in the "mod" subfolder and is once again back in the root folder.

I've finally beaten the host into submission and they are providing me with a backup today. Hopefully this will mean you can transfer the important stuff from the old site, even if it becomes a manual post-by-post process.
I also need to give you a lesson in the backup software

I deserved that.
In my defence I am starting to think making a backup would not have helped much.
I think our host server doesn't like the new Joomla 3.5.x
Either the new Joomla version is crap or our host is.
UPDATE: Unbelievable. After I hit the Database FIX button about 3 times it fixed the problem and it is now reporting that the website database is properly updated. I know there are a lot of people complaining about the new update on their forums so maybe it is the software that is buggy.

- When I tried updating 3.4.8 to 3.5.0 I got an error.
- When I installed a totally fresh version of Joomla 3.4.8 and tried to update to 3.5.0 I got an error.
- After thinking I fixed that problem and attempting to update today from 3.5.0 to 3.5.1 I got that same error again!

The new server we are on seems nice and snappy. The old server was pretty sluggish especially if you would make an edit in the forums. Hopefully this will help the next time there is a Joomla update
