That photo is almost a time capsule.
Swat 3 was my first multiplayer game that got me addicted. Before that I was playing single player only games if I recall.

Yes, it is quite a sight for sore eyes to see S3 on an old beige monster. the dell dude must be lurking somewhere in gateway country lol. I have to give sierra credit for making multiplayer so easily accessible and user friendly with WON embedded into the main screen. Playing online in rainbow six before that always seemed like such a chore, I would click on that option and it would kick me over to internet explorer and some website called something like "microsoft zone". How I ever even got into those matches was beyond me. The first time I had even heard the word "multiplayer" was in swat 2 and I literally had no idea what that even meant. When I clicked on it one day it put me into the WON lobby where other players were immediately verbally abusing me and adding me to deathmatches where I was brutally owned. Played swat 2 on WON for a year and finally rose in the ranks, then S3 cqb dropped so I was playing single player S3 offline for a year while I continued playing swat 2 on WON. S3 multiplayer was mind blowingly awesome when it eventually did drop a year later, well worth the wait. Honestly, twenty-five years on and I am still in utter awe of S3, in some ways now more than ever. I consider it an absolute triumph of human creativity akin to Edison and Tesla, that probably sounds a bit extra but can't help but to see it that way.

I keep checking to see if the NeuWon network is back up but sadly it isn't. Would have been so great to have an online feature back.

I might be lost in fantasy land here, but I feel that if S3 was easily playable online that it would actually still be pretty popular. Seeing how the Swat 3 Browser Map Viewer on this site works gives me hope that a browser based version of S3 could be created that would require minimal or no install. Resurrecting WON would be one approach, it would just be so cool if anyone anywhere any time could enter an S3 coop environment with other players whenever they felt like it. Kind of like that VR chat game or second life, not that I have ever had a computer that could handle those games lol.
