Is there a way to improve the AI?

I was looking at PC Gaming Wikia for the Swat 3 and found this guide to improve the AI of the game: www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/SWAT_3:_Close_...rs_Battle#Enhance_AI
It says to change the "aisuspecttime" in the swat.cfg file from 20 to 200. The problem is everytime I start the game, the file changes the value back to 20 (even if I don't go to the options screen). This happens with the last resort mod and without it.
Is this really the way to improve the AI, or is there any other way?
Thank you!

It has been a long time since I experimented with that setting. Wouldn't a larger number cause the AI to react slower?
This is something that perhaps could be hacked. Not sure how much benefit it would be though.
Sadly, without access to the source code there are major limitations of what can be changed.

*sigh* such a shame they never released the source code. So much things could had be done with it...
Thanks for the response. Appreciate it!

Do you guys use any mods to make the gameplay or the suspects/hostages more realistic?

If you visit www.swat3reunited.com/ there is a GAMEPLAY category for mods to download. The only thing that seems to fit your description is "Violent Offender Mod". I have no idea what it does though.
